How to care for your scar and reduce adhesions as you heal.
Once your incision has healed (usually after 6 weeks), scar massage can help reduce adhesions, improve tissue mobility, and decrease sensitivity. Always get approval from your healthcare provider before starting.
Begin with gentle touch around the scar — not on it. Use unscented lotion or oil. Massage in small circles along the scar line, then horizontally across it. Spend 5-10 minutes daily.
Silicone sheets or gels can help flatten and lighten the scar over time. Protect the scar from sun exposure for at least 12 months.
If the scar is painful, raised, or itchy beyond 3 months, ask about treatments like steroid injections or laser therapy.
