Why staying hydrated is critical for postpartum healing.
Water is essential for every aspect of postpartum recovery. It supports milk production, helps prevent constipation, aids tissue healing, maintains energy levels, and regulates body temperature.
How much to drink: at least 8-10 cups (64-80 oz) per day. Breastfeeding mothers need significantly more — aim for 12-16 cups. Keep a large water bottle wherever you nurse or pump.
Signs of dehydration: dark urine, headache, fatigue, dry mouth, dizziness, reduced milk supply.
Tips to stay hydrated: set a daily water goal on your phone, infuse water with lemon or cucumber for flavor, eat water-rich foods (watermelon, cucumbers, soups), drink a glass of water every time you nurse or pump.
