Understanding the physical changes and healing process after childbirth.

Your body has accomplished something extraordinary. In the weeks following birth, you will experience a range of physical changes as your body begins its recovery journey. Understanding what is normal can help you feel more prepared and less anxious.

Bleeding and discharge (lochia) typically lasts 4-6 weeks. Uterine cramping helps your uterus shrink back to its pre-pregnancy size. Perineal soreness is common, especially if you had a vaginal tear or episiotomy. Breast engorgement may occur as your milk comes in.

Rest is essential. Your body needs energy to heal. Listen to your body and avoid overexertion. Gentle movement, staying hydrated, and eating nutrient-rich foods will support your recovery.

Most importantly, be patient with yourself. Healing takes time, and every woman's journey is different.
