A guide to the first three months postpartum and what your body needs.

The fourth trimester refers to the first 12 weeks after birth — a period of profound adjustment for both you and your baby. During this time, your body is healing, your hormones are shifting, and you are learning to care for a newborn.

Your primary focus should be rest, nutrition, and gentle movement. Sleep when the baby sleeps, even during the day. Accept help from others. Your only job right now is to heal and bond with your baby.

Common experiences include night sweats as your body sheds pregnancy fluids, hair shedding around 3-4 months postpartum, and changes in skin pigmentation. These are all normal parts of the postpartum transition.

If something feels wrong, trust your instincts and contact your healthcare provider.
